What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are not the same thing. Hypnosis has been around since humans first started to communicate and involves going into a trance. Maybe you have experienced it when driving a car and you suddenly realise you do not remember the last few moments of the journey, or you are listening to a story and you forget totally what you were doing before. You can feel like your eyes “glaze over” and that you have been staring for longer than normal. These trance states are natural and happen often in everyday life.
Hypnotherapy is when a hypnotic trance is used to help achieve a goal, or create a positive change in your thinking or to help solve a problem and is facilitated by a professional practitioner (that’s me!).
Being hypnotised is not dissimilar to being sleepy or in a daydream. Hypnotherapy is simply a method of putting this natural trance state to work to solve your problems. When you are in a hypnotic trance you are completely aware of the words being spoken to you by the hypnotherapist….and do remember that should a fire alarm go off you will instantly be aware and take yourself out of the trance to respond!
It is also important to remember that your mind will not allow you to do anything under hypnosis that you do not want to do. Your are simply going on a journey which relaxes you and allows you to implement change that you want, and this will be guided by me.
If at any time a client presents an issue for which I think they will be better treated by another professional, I will always refer them on to someone else who is better suited to their requirements.
